SLOVENIA

A bridge between wine worlds

Slovenia is a fascinating crossroads of wine cultures, where Central European, Mediterranean, and Balkan influences blend to create a unique style. This small country boasts four distinct wine regions: Podravje in the northeast with its fresh whites, Posavje in the central area with light and fruity wines, Primorska in the west with more Mediterranean expressions, and the Slovenian Karst (Kras) with its characteristic red wines. The unique geological and microclimatic diversity allows for wines of extraordinary personality, where alpine freshness meets Mediterranean maturity, creating complex and vibrant aromatic profiles.

Ancient tradition and pioneering spirit

Slovenian winemaking tradition has its roots in Roman times, but it was the post-independence renaissance that brought these wines to the international stage. Slovenia is now recognized for its dual character: on the one hand, the refined mineral whites of Collio/Brda and the Vipava Valley, and on the other, the macerated wines (orange wines) that have found their ideal terroir in the Karst and Primorska regions. Native grape varieties such as Rebula (Ribolla Gialla), Zelen, Pinela, and Refošk coexist with international varieties, all interpreted with a style that favors authenticity and respect for the territory.

Artisans of natural wine

Our selection highlights iconic producers such as Movia, a pioneer of natural wines led by the vision of Aleš Kristančič and Marjan Simčič with his precision whites from Collio. There is no shortage of radical interpretations from Radikon and Gravner, who have revolutionized the concept of macerating white grapes. These winemakers share a deep connection to the land and sustainable agricultural practices, creating wines that express authenticity and a distinctive character, the result of centuries of tradition and a new awareness of production.
