The Rhône Valley, which stretches along the mighty river that crosses southeastern France, presents a fascinating winemaking duality. In the north, on the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph, Syrah reigns supreme, expressing all its elegance and complexity with spicy, floral notes and a powerful yet refined structure. In the south, in the Mediterranean region of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, blends based on Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault dominate, producing sunny, generous wines rich in hints of ripe fruit and garrigue.

A heritage of unique grape varieties and terroirs

The richness of the Rhône Valley lies in the diversity of its terroirs: from the granite soils of the north to the famous “galets roulés” (pebbles) of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In addition to powerful reds, the region also offers fascinating whites made from Marsanne, Roussanne, and the aromatic Viognier, which reaches its peak expression in Condrieu. There is no shortage of excellent rosés, especially in the Tavel appellation, the only French appellation exclusively dedicated to this type of wine, with structured and complex wines.
