A wine microcosm between tradition and originality
Our selection of Jura red wines offers an immersion into one of the most fascinating and unique territories in the French wine scene. This small mountainous region, nestled between Burgundy and Switzerland, is a true wine microcosm where ancestral traditions, native grape varieties and unique terroirs give life to wines of extraordinary originality. With just 2,000 hectares of vineyards, Jura is a tiny production area but one with an imposing personality, where the continental climate with harsh winters and hot summers, together with soils rich in clay and blue marl from the Jurassic period (hence the name of the region), shape reds with an unmistakable territorial imprint. Here, the native Poulsard (or Ploussard) and Trousseau grape varieties express their uniqueness to the full, alongside Pinot Noir, which takes on distinctive characteristics compared to its close Burgundian cousin.
From delicate Poulsard to structured Trousseau
The heart of our collection revolves around the two grape varieties that symbolise the territory: Poulsard, with its thin skins that produce wines with a surprisingly pale, almost rosé colour, but with a complex bouquet of red fruits, spices and undergrowth, supported by a light but incisive structure and vibrant freshness; and the more robust Trousseau, which produces wines with a deeper colour and more significant tannic structure, with notes of dark fruits, exotic spices and a characteristic ferrous minerality. There is no shortage of interpretations of Pinot Noir, which in this terroir acquires a particular tension and sapidity, and the fascinating traditional blends that combine different grape varieties in proportions that vary according to the area and production philosophies. Our selection represents both the historic producers who keep traditional techniques such as semi-carbonic maceration alive, and the new generation of winemakers who, while respecting tradition, are bringing a breath of fresh air and precision to the production approach.
A unique profile: lightness, complexity and versatility
Jura reds stand out in the French landscape for their absolutely unique stylistic profile, where structural lightness is accompanied by surprising aromatic complexity and unexpected longevity. Their distinctive bouquet, which often combines delicate fruity notes with earthy nuances, mushrooms, spices and a characteristic oxidative vein (especially in the more traditional versions), makes them wines to be discovered, capable of surprising even the most experienced palates. This original personality makes them extraordinarily versatile at the table, perfect for accompanying local cuisine based on Comté and other hard cheeses, smoked meats, white meats and mushroom dishes, but also surprising with more elaborate contemporary cuisine. Our collection offers the opportunity to explore this territory, still little known in Italy, where small-scale viticulture, often conducted according to organic and biodynamic principles, produces wines of extraordinary authenticity, representing the antithesis of standardisation in winemaking and a hymn to viticultural biodiversity. Each bottle tells the story not only of a unique terroir, but also of centuries of tradition and the passion of winemakers who have preserved an invaluable wine heritage.
