MÜLLER-THURGAU

The fresh jewel of the Alps

Born from the intuition of Professor Hermann Müller at the beginning of the 20th century, Müller-Thurgau represents one of the most successful wine crossbreeds in history, combining the characteristics of Riesling with those of Madeleine Royale. This selection explores this fascinating grape variety, from its most celebrated Italian Alpine expressions to interpretations from beyond the Alps, offering wines of extraordinary aromatic finesse, freshness, and pleasantness, capable of accurately conveying the elegance of mountainous and hilly territories.

From microclimate to bottle: territories of excellence

In the valleys of South Tyrol, especially in the Isarco and Val Venosta valleys, Müller-Thurgau finds its highest Italian expression, where the altitude (up to 800-1000 meters) and temperature variations give the wines an intense aromatic profile and vibrant acidity. In Trentino, particularly in the Cembra Valley, it acquires more mature notes while maintaining its freshness. There is no shortage of excellent German, Swiss, and Austrian interpretations, each with unique nuances that reflect specific microclimates and different production philosophies.

Aromaticity and freshness: the distinctive character

The selection celebrates the different expressions of Müller-Thurgau: from the fresher, more vertical wines of South Tyrol with notes of white peach, mountain herbs, and citrus fruits, to the more structured and complex versions from the hilly areas, where hints of white flowers, yellow-fleshed fruits, and sometimes delicate spicy notes emerge. Almost always vinified in steel to preserve its aromatic purity, this grape variety produces wines that are immediate but never banal, with a pleasantness that, in the best expressions, is accompanied by a surprising complexity.

The masters of interpretation: between tradition and innovation

From the meticulous productions of Abbazia di Novacella and Cantina Valle Isarco in South Tyrol to the refined expressions of Pojer and Sandri in Trentino: here you will find all the producers who have elevated this grape variety to new levels of quality. Particular attention is paid to wineries that, through organic and biodynamic farming, enhance the natural expressiveness of a grape variety that perfectly represents the freshness and elegance of the Alpine territories, producing versatile wines, from aperitifs to the most refined dishes of mountain cuisine.
