CALABRIA

Between two seas, a thousand-year-old tradition

Calabria boasts a wine-making tradition that has its roots in ancient Magna Graecia, with a unique territory nestled between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea. This unique geographical position, combined with varied soils and a Mediterranean climate with strong maritime influences, gives Calabrian wines their distinctive personality and authentic character. Viticulture is mainly developed on hills and slopes, where temperature variations favor optimal ripening of the grapes.

Cirò and native grape varieties

Cirò, Calabria's first DOC wine, represents regional excellence with its symbolic grape variety, Gaglioppo. This iconic red wine offers a ruby color, notes of red fruits and spices, with an important but elegant tannic structure. Alongside Gaglioppo, the region promotes other native grape varieties such as Magliocco, Greco Bianco, and Mantonico, which are experiencing a renaissance thanks to the work of passionate producers committed to preserving this unique ampelographic heritage.

Wine renaissance between tradition and innovation

Calabrian viticulture is experiencing a period of extraordinary rebirth, with a new generation of producers combining respect for tradition and technological innovation. From the hills of Pollino to the vineyards of the Costa Viola, passing through the Cirò area, Calabria offers wines of character that express the authenticity of the territory. This rediscovery of quality is bringing Calabrian wines to the attention of enthusiasts, revealing a wine treasure with great potential that is still partly unexplored.
