Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red. It is characterised by intense fruity perfumes which harmonise with a delicate and pleasant scent of liquorice and pipe tobacco. Elegant and voluminous on the palate, it has a full and smooth taste, mainly with fruity sensations, set against a background of elegant herbaceous and spicy tastes. Freshness, smoothness, alcohol and tannins are masterfully combined.

Pairings

It is easily matched with most dishes other than fish. It is particularly good with tasty rice and pasta dishes and with main courses featuring red meat and game. Excellent with roast veal. Also worth trying with a rich winter soup with spelt and kale.

Isola dei Nuraghi Rosso IGT "Montessu" 2022 - Agricola Punica: Why we like it

The names of the partners in the "Agricola Punica" joint-venture read like the most thrilling of books. Anyone who knows even just the slightest bit about the stories of these men, would undoubtedly go out and by their wine without even tasting it. If this isn't enough, we can add that Agricola Punica's Isola dei Nuraghi Rosso IGT “Montessu” 2013 offers depth and personality with beautiful interpretations of fruit that are assisted by spicy and tertiary scents. It ferments on skins, undergoing repeated pumping over. Malo-lactic fermentation gives it exceptional smoothness. It ages in French oak barriques for about 15 months. It has an incredible price/quality ratio. Definitely one of our favourite wines.

Brand

A joint venture to create great Sardinian wines

The Agricola Punica winery is a joint venture, or mixed company, founded by Dr Sebastiano Rosa, oenologist at the Tenuta di San Guido, by the Tenuta di San Guido itself, by the Santadi winery, by Antonello Pilloni, president of the Santadi winery, and by the internationally renowned Tuscan oenologist Giacomo Tachis. There are many links between these figures who, as if that were not enough, now produce wines that are nothing short of extraordinary from the vineyards of the southern Sulcis area.

A Mediterranean terroir

We are, in fact, in the municipality of Santadi, in the province of Carbonia-Iglesias, and it is here that both native and international grape varieties have been grown since 2002. Among the rows of vines, alongside Carignano and Vermentino, we also find Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Chardonnay, which are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment, nature and the ecosystem, producing pure, concentrated and rich grapes.

In the winery, each stage of production is carefully monitored, resulting in wines that have come to represent the highest level of quality that Sardinia is currently capable of producing.

The wines of Agricola Punica

The 65 hectares of vineyards, divided into two distinct estates - Barrua and Narcau - currently produce two great Sardinian red wines and an excellent white wine, all three with the “Isola dei Nuraghi” protected geographical indication.

The reds, “Barrua” and “Montessu”, are distinguished by the excellent quality of the grapes, which give them their colour, structure, alcoholic richness and, above all, the smoothness provided by the perfect fusion of tannins and acidity.

The white wine, “Samas”, is characterised by a moderate alcohol content, freshness and fruity notes that make it particularly pleasant.

The wines produced by “Agricola Punica” are a guarantee of quality, as one would expect from the names that created them and saw them come to life. Simply exceptional wines.
