BIODYNAMIC WINES: CONNECTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Agriculture, and therefore also biodynamic viticulture, is a different way of thinking about the act of cultivation. Ecology, ethics, social and economic sustainability all contribute to biodynamic thinking: a winery must therefore be able to operate independently, relying solely on the resources offered by its territory and human labor. A biodynamic wine is therefore certainly a product closely connected to its environment, and is the result of systems that go beyond pure organic farming to embrace broader concepts: energy, harmony with nature, lunar phases, and the value of time.

What do they have in common?

To date, there are no official certifications that establish the same rules for everyone, but only rules set by private organizations such as Demeter. In any case, all biodynamic producers share a number of characteristics:

Attention to diversity. The number of species of grapes and other plants present in the vineyard is a heritage to be preserved, favoring native vines and promoting the coexistence of several different varieties.

Respect for natural rhythms. Biodynamic winegrowers often synchronize their work with the phases of the moon or pay close attention to flowering times, following not their own calendar but what nature dictates at that specific moment.

The value of richness. The ultimate goal of every biodynamic winegrower is to make a wine that is richer in flavor, nutrients, ethical value, and connections to its territory (an example is our selection of Tuscan biodynamic wines).

Zero chemicals. Only natural substances and no synthetic chemicals (and in this respect there is a great similarity with wines without added sulfites). Homeopathic preparations are often used in the vineyard with the aim of promoting the well-being and strength of the land rather than combating diseases and pests.

Why we like them

Biodynamic producers are able to look beyond: beyond the wine itself, beyond the vineyard, beyond the cellar, to follow higher principles with exceptional courage and dedication. This is why we follow them with interest and appreciate their full-bodied and direct wines.
