PINOT NOIR

If you love fine, complex red wines, Pinot Noir is definitely the one for you.

In our online wine shop, you will find the best Pinot Noir wines, both red and sparkling, from South Tyrol and around the world, from both large producers and small wineries. Pinot Noir is an ancient French red grape variety that has changed over the centuries, giving rise to Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio, grapes with unique characteristics.

What kind of wine is Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir, called “enfant terrible” by the French for its eccentricity, is a difficult grape variety to grow, which year after year represents a challenge for winegrowers around the world.

One of the most unpredictable grapes in the world, it can be strongly influenced by the terroir. A Pinot Noir grown in warm climates, which has not been aged in wood, for example, will be marked by fruity aromas of raspberry, blueberry, and cherry, to which will be added scents of mint and dill if grown at lower temperatures (as well as a more pronounced acidity).

The use of barrels is sometimes essential to make a Pinot Noir elegant, enriching it with more evolved and complex aromas, earthy notes, and hints of undergrowth.

What is the best Pinot Noir?

The land of choice for Pinot Noir is Burgundy, where it expresses itself with characteristics of rare elegance, but South Tyrolean Pinot Noir also reaches unparalleled heights of quality, thanks to the climate and suitable soils.

If you love sparkling wines, in our wine e-commerce you will find great Champagnes made from pure Pinot Noir (blanc de noirs) or blended with Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.

Pinot Noir is an excellent base for sparkling wines used in France but also in Italy for Trento DOC, Franciacorta DOCG, and Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG, different wines that will allow you to discover the potential of this multifaceted grape variety.

To be fair, Pinot Noir from Oltrepò Pavese is also vinified as a still red wine, a wine that is particularly popular for its drinkability and versatility throughout a meal.

Excellent interpretations also come from the New World of wine, such as New Zealand Pinot Noir from Central Otago and Marlborough Valley, or that produced in Oregon's Willamette Valley.

What does Pinot Noir pair well with?

With its subtle structure and delicate aromas of small red fruits and spices, it pairs divinely with:

-Fish: trout, salmon, sea bass, and white fish in general enhance its freshness.

-White meats: chicken, rabbit, and turkey pair well with its light tannins.

-Mild cheeses: Camembert, Brie, and mild Gorgonzola enhance its floral notes.

-Delicate first courses: Tagliatelle with homemade meat sauce, vegetable risotto, and fresh pasta with cherry tomatoes are perfect pairings.

-Pizza and appetizers: It is delicious with cold cuts and grilled vegetables.

Its elegance also makes it suitable for vegetarian or fish-based meals. The important thing is not to cover its aromas with overly elaborate dishes. Try it for yourself!
