It was a spring day in 1814, when Lieutenant Colonel Charles Palmer, during a stagecoach trip through France, thanks of the soldier in uniform charm, managed to convince the noblewoman Marie Brunet de Ferrière to sell him the vineyards of the Médoc that she had just inherited.
Without ever having even visited the vineyards, he who was the son of a brewer and who was going to become major general of the British army, became the owner of Domaine de Gascq, a wine estate renowned for the quality of its wines. Over three decades the estate was enlarged and modernized by the new owner, Charles Palmer, who would later give his name to the winery, "Château Palmer".
Purchased towards the end of the 19th century by the brothers Émile and Isaac Pereire, the company was further enlarged, to be finally consecrated, in 1938, among the most prestigious crus in the entire Bordeaux region.
Currently belonging to the Mähler-Besse family, the estate is managed by Thomas Duroux, a world-renowned winemaker who is also well known in Italy.
Counting on a vineyard area that reaches 66 hectares, falling within the Cantenac sub-area of Margaux, the company grows the vines on gravelly, sandy and clayey soils, where the cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot plants come to give fruit simply extraordinary, harvested only when the perfect phenolic ripeness is reached.
In the cellar, each production process is checked and monitored with scruple and extreme attention, constantly pursuing the highest possible quality levels.
In this way, excellent fine labels are created, from "Palmer" to "Alter Ego", concentrated and fresh wines, with a determined and decisive personality. You can forget these bottles in your cellar for at least 10 years, and get to taste the truest and most wonderful Margaux’s terroir. Really fabulous wines, absolutely to try.
