CHÂTEAU MANGOT

Château Mangot’s history begins 5 centuries ago; however it came to a turning point when Simone and Jean Petit, starting from 1954, gave a new direction to the estate. With a lot of work and a strong ambition, they managed to bring the vineyard to 34 hectares and to merge the Château La Brande estate, located within the AOC Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, with Château Mangot. Then, in 1989, Anne-Marie, Simone and Jean Petit’s daughter, and her husband Jean-Guy Todeschini, aware of the great potential of Château Mangot, decided to personally commit to its enhancement; it was in the same years that the vineyards of Château Mangot obtained the AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. Later, in 2008, Karl and Yann, Anne-Marie and Jean-Guy’s children, also joined the estate. Karl, after studying Viticulture and Oenology, worked at Château Clarke, Château Beauséjour Bécot and Château Ausone; subsequently, he first moved to California and then, in 2006, trained for two and a half years in Italy, before returning to Mangot in 2008. From the same year, his younger brother, Yann, a graduate in Agriculture, joined him too. The two of them brought a burst of energy and a new dynamism to the estate; viticulture is now sustainable, synthetic products are not used in the vineyard, everything aims to reduce the impact on the environment, while biodynamic practices have been added to organic certification over the years. Among the wines of the Todeschini family we find the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOC produced in the Château La Brande estate, the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru AOC, the Saint-Émilion - Sans soufre "L'autre Mangot" - the result of years and years of research and without sulfur -, and the “Distique” series - which recalls in the name not only the brotherly duality of Karl and Yann Todeschini, but is also enriched by an atypical approach, which involves the vines, the vinification and the aging.
