CAMIN LARREDYA

Camin Larredya is a historic wine estate located in La Chapelle de Rousse in the heart of Jurançon, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Camin Larredya and wine growing in this area date back to the 14th century. Jurançon is an AOC wine-growing region in south-western France, where dry white wine and sweet white wine are produced.

Camin Larredya was purchased by the Grussaute family in 1900 and initially focused on livestock farming and fruit tree cultivation. Around 1920, the vineyards of Jurançon were devastated by phylloxera, and even those still present on the Camin Larredya estate did not escape this sad fate. They were only replanted in 1970 and began producing wine five years later.

In 1988, Jean-Marc Grussaute, fresh from his studies in oenology, took over from his father, who died in 1983. Jean-Marc took the family business to the top of the Jurançon wine producers, cultivating 11.5 hectares of vineyards certified organic. The vines are planted on four terraces and include Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Petit Courbu and Camaralet varieties.

Today, the estate produces 45,000 bottles per year from grapes harvested by hand from vines with an average age of 35 years.
The care taken in managing the vines is evident, and it almost seems that Jean-Marc Grussaute feels more at home as a gardener when he decides to increase the number of manual operations to accompany the development of the vines and limit their susceptibility to disease.
In the cellar, the grapes are pressed gently and at length, with every detail being taken care of with precision and attention. The must is fermented naturally, after which ageing continues in barrels or barriques.

The main labels of the Camin Larredya estate are: “La Part Davant”, “La Virada” and the Moelleux “Au Capcèu” and “Costat Darrèr”.
