The best Barolo crus
The winery owned by Giuseppe Rinaldi, who passed away at the age of 70 at the end of 2018, was founded in 1890 by Battista Rinaldi, a true farmer who worked in the vineyards of Marchese Falletti di Barolo.
Battista later became the owner of a small farm, began selling the grapes he produced, and, with the help of his children, started a wine-making business. Since then, the family tradition of the winery has been passed down from father to son, to Giuseppe and, today, to his daughter Marta, who graduated in oenology from the school in Alba.
The estate's vineyards are located in the most renowned Barolo crus, such as Brunate, Cannubi-San Lorenzo, and Ravera, and the Rinaldi family has always had a two-way relationship with its vineyards and the land, deciding to preserve both, protecting and enhancing them.
Giuseppe Rinaldi was a free spirit, considered by many to be one of the last anarchists in the winery; known as “Citrico” for his strong critical spirit and rigor, Giuseppe cultivated seven hectares of native vineyards on land characterized by an optimal microclimate and exposure, using strictly organic methods without the use of chemicals and herbicides, which were replaced by sulfur, copper, and cow manure fertilizers.
His management style stemmed from a deep connection with traditions and rural culture, passing on to his daughters a production method focused on meticulous care of the vineyards and rigorous processing with attention to every detail.
Giuseppe Rinaldi's wines
Giuseppe Rinaldi's winery produces around 38,000 bottles per year, 60% of which are Barolo and the remaining 40% are typical Piedmontese wines such as Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo, and Freisa.
The wine is vinified in open truncated cone-shaped vats, aged in large Slavonian oak barrels, and fermented with indigenous yeasts at spontaneous temperatures and with rational use of sulfur dioxide.
Great wines by Giuseppe Rinaldi, a man who has made his company a symbol of excellence in Italy and beyond.
